Our objective is to build a new home that will better meet our current needs and accommodate for growth for the future. To best serve our families, one of our priorities is to remain in close proximity to our area hospitals. Our new House will offer the same restful hospitality with key expansions to serve our evolving guest population. We will continue to be a warm and safe haven for families whose children are seriously ill or injured.

Up to 35 guest rooms with private baths
Private check-in area for guest families
Elevators
Increased kitchen capacity
Family dining areas
Playrooms adjacent to kitchen for supervision
Family room to accommodate various ages
Outdoor play area
Multiple laundry facilities
Meeting Needs
The needs and number of families have grown and changed during the past 27 years. Medical advances, now saving the lives of more children, require multiple stays in and close to the hospital.
With the opening of the new Golisano Children’s Hospital, additional rooms will be needed at our Ronald McDonald House. In addition, the children’s hospital will draw new patients from Rochester and Buffalo and pediatric surgery patients from Albany.
The physical limitations of our current Ronald McDonald House make it increasingly difficult to meet the needs of our families which include full handicap accessibility.
Our guest rooms and shared bathrooms are not suited to the daily care of children on new outpatient medical treatments. Private rooms with private baths will be needed to accommodate health and safety needs for new outpatient medical protocols.
Steep stairs and narrow hallways pose difficulties for new mothers, especially those who have delivered babies by C-section. An increasing number of caregivers of pediatric patients have specific needs, such as an elevator or wheelchair-accessible bathrooms.
Annually, 250 women with high risk pregnancies travel to Syracuse for specialized prenatal care at Crouse Hospital. A new home that is handicap accessible will enable us to extend our hospitality to these women and their families.
Annually, 60 families whose children are hospitalized with mental health related issues will travel more than 25 miles to access care at Hutchings Psychiatric Center. Due to our current limitations on available guest bedrooms, the House can not entertain referrals for these families. The average length of stay for these patients is 46.6 days. With the expansion of up to 35 guests bedrooms, we will be able to open our doors to these families.
