Our Story

Nearly three decades ago, Ronald McDonald House Charities® of CNY (RMHC of CNY) was simply a dream. A dream of a safe, comfortable place where families whose children were hospitalized could find respite just around the corner. This dream began with a grass roots, community effort lead by the very dedicated local parents of seriously ill children. They joined with McDonald’s and other community leaders and are responsible for our House as it stands today.

Since opening our doors on Thanksgiving Day, 1982 more than 17,000 families have found comfort and hope at the Ronald McDonald House in Syracuse. Over the last 29 years, the organization has expanded from seven to sixteen guest bedroom and in 1997 implemented the adminstration of a mini-grants program for charities meeting the needs of children in Central New York.

We are known as “the house that love built”.
